7 Tips to Prepare YOU For Sorority Recruitment

1. Eat Your Breakfast

Get those calories in! With recruitment, it is a long day talking to many potential new members. Having a high protein-dense breakfast can help you feel fuller for longer. Also, bring snacks that may hold you over until lunch if it is provided for you. If not, pack a lunch too! Breakfast will allow you to focus on your conversations without the hungry thoughts in your mind.

2. Feel Your Best
How do you feel your best? This could involve getting your hair and nails done, finding the perfect outfit, or wearing the ideal jewelry. When you feel your best, everyone will notice, boosting confidence. I feel my best when I give myself enough time to stop for coffee before the day starts.

3. Practice Talking to Strangers
This may sound silly, but it can be extremely helpful, especially in clubs or job roles where you don't speak frequently. Just before my first recruitment, I started working at a coffee shop chain where it was encouraged to engage with every customer and continue the conversation at the window. This became my way of practicing talking to potential new members who might need time to open up.

4. Go to any Booth Days
This is your time to meet girls who are interested in Greek Life! Even if they do not run home to you, you helped allow them to be a part of a community. You may also find a new friend that you were not looking for. It also allows you another opportunity to hang out with your sisters if you do not have a sorority house!

5. Keep Everything to Yourself
You may want to share everything you discussed during recruitment with your friends outside of your sorority or what you do outside of recruitment, but it is best if you do not. There are times when they may snitch on you so they can get potential new members that you were interested in. Also, no one wants to be fined! Fines range per college, but anything could happen.

6. Pack What You Need
Some essentials will help you survive recruitment! This could be snacks, flip flops, a good book, a blanket, and lots of water. Depending on the college, they may recommend different needs, but setting powder and backup makeup are always good options. At the Epsilon Rho Alpha Delta Pi chapter, we ask our members to bring something to keep them entertained during breaks between rounds in recruitment. We also bring slippers, double-sided tape for outfits, and backup jewelry for anyone needing it.

7. Sleep!
With these long days, sleep is more important than ever! Having a good night of rest can help you stay awake and alert throughout the day. Stay off all devices 30 minutes to an hour before bed to allow your mind to rest and sleep. Many take sleep for granted. If you have trouble waking up in the mornings, ask another sister to have a sleepover to ensure you both hold each other accountable.

and Ever Afther wants to remind you... don't forget to have FUN! Recruitment is one of the many experiences you will have in college that collectively adds to inspiring YOUR herstory!
